Corona virus is a cause of acute, mild upper respiratory infections (common cold).
Structure: -
Single-stranded RNA-containing spherical or pulmonary enveloped particles consist of a capsid matrix protein associated with a nucleoprotein. The coating covers the contents of glycoproteins.
Classification: -
Corona virus (and Toro virus) are classified together based on the appearance of the glycoprotein crown or corona. Also, it can be classified on specific characteristics of chemistry and replication. Most human coronaviruses fall into one of two serotypes: eg OC43- and 229E |
Diagnosis: -
Colds due to coronavirus cannot be distinguished clinically in any one person compared to other colds. Laboratory diagnostics can be made based on antibody titers in paired sera. It is difficult to avoid infection on contact with the virus. Nucleic acid hybridization tests (including PCR) are now offered.
Control:-
Treatment of the common cold is symptomatic; There is no vaccine or specific medicines available. Hygiene measures reduce the rate of transmission.
