'Poverty' was defeated in front of hard work: Hawker's son secured 45th rank in UPSC, became an officer



UPSC Topper Anil Basak: Anil Basak, son of a hawker from Kishanganj, Bihar, has secured 45th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In the year 2014, Anil had raised the honor of his family and relatives for the first time by passing the entrance examination of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. But this was only the first step in his leap of success. At that time, Basak, who had come to Delhi from Bihar, had no idea that a few years later he would be among the top 50 clearing civil services exams.


Anil told news channel Aaj T


ak, "I was selected in IIT Delhi in 2014. When I reached the third year of my civil engineering course, I started preparing for civil services exam. It was August 2016" . Anil could not clear the UPSC prelims exam in the year 2018 in his first attempt. At first he was disappointed after seeing the result. He said, "I tried a lot between 2016 and 2018 but still I could not clear the prelims. Maybe it was because of my wrong strategy

After this he remembered himself and his courage and became humble. In his second attempt, he cracked the Civil Services exam and secured 616th rank in IRS. This was his third attempt and finally Basak secured 45th rank in the exam. Basak said, "To be fair, the circumstances were tough, and those conditions made me stronger. Probably, it was the tough times that tested me, and also gave me strength.


Anil also credits his success


 to Jai Shankar, a school teacher in his primary school, who laid the foundation for his career. Basak is the second of four brothers in the family. His elder brother is a working professional and two younger brothers are still pursuing their studies. Anil said, "My father had studied only till the fourth standard but he speaks many languages. My family has seen a situation of extreme poverty. My father worked as a hawker. He supported his family by- He also 

 

help in Rajasthan to nurture. 


The family used to live in a rented house first and then they had a kutcha house. Later his father-name-built a pucca house. Anil said that a lot needs to be done at home. The financial condition of his family is not good. He has to take care of his family and he hopes that he will be able to fulfill their dreams after clearing the civil services exam.
